What to do in Benalmádena · an editorial guide

The village,
slowly.

"An editorial guide to the village where you'll sleep. Written by those who also sleep here — and right next to you."

by The White Village Boutique team

"Benalmádena Pueblo is not the other Benalmádena. It's the original one. The one that was here long before the beach."

The essentials

Six must-see stops.

What every guest of the house should see at least once. Not the TripAdvisor stops — these are the ones we recommend to friends when they come to see us. Some are five minutes' walk from the door, others require a car or bus: we've put them in order of proximity.

013 min · on foot

Plaza de España

The neuralgic centre of the village. Geraniums, a fountain, a white church and a couple of bars that have been open since before the town hall. Best at 7:30pm, with the slanting sun.

Best time · 7:00pm — 9:00pm
025 min · by car

Buddhist Stupa

A viewpoint and Buddhist monument above the village. Unexpected, photogenic, free. A short climb up a road that winds between olive groves, with views of the coast that leave anyone speechless.

Best time · sunset
038 min · on foot

Castillo de Colomares

A singular monument dedicated to the discovery of America, mixing Gothic, Mudéjar and Byzantine styles. An architectural curiosity with great views, on a pine-lined walk just minutes away.

Best time · 10:00am — 1:00pm
0415 min · by bus

Puerto Marina

A marina with white "Mediterranean Venice" architecture. An aperitif right by the boats, an ice cream on the way back. The bus down from the village runs frequently and costs just over a euro.

Best time · midday vermouth
0515 min · by car

Seaside promenade

Kilometres of walking along the sea with classic beach bars where fried fish tastes just as it should. Order anchovies, espetos and a very cold beer — and look out to sea without a clock.

Best time · midday or sunset
0625 min · by car

Catedral de Málaga

"La Manquita" presides over Málaga's historic centre: Renaissance cathedral, narrow streets, bars with marble counters and the Atarazanas market. A full-day plan if you're in no hurry.

Best time · morning or late afternoon
Where to eat

Three trusted
tables.

The village has many restaurant options. The truth is there are only a few we visit when family comes to town. Here they are — no affiliation, no commission, no order of preference. Book direct yourself; we're saying so for your peace of mind.

La Pala de Oro
One of our top tables in the village. Careful cooking, well-treated produce, the place we send anyone who wants to get it right first time.
Top · village
La Perla
A table to remember. Short menu, attentive service, flavour without shortcuts. The one people ask us to recommend when they're after something special.
Top · village
El Higuerón
Traditional tapas and home cooking. No tablecloths, with local family. Order the croquettes and don't ask why.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask
before they arrive.

How do I get here from Málaga airport?

The easiest way is taxi, Uber or Bolt straight through (around 25 min). You can also take the local train to Benalmádena-Arroyo and an urban bus up to the village if you're travelling light.

Is the beach close?

The closest beach is Torremuelle: you can walk down to it directly from our street. On the way you'll pass Castillo de Colomares as a landmark. Other Benalmádena Costa beaches are 10 min by car.

Best month to visit?

Here every month is a good one. Short sleeves work comfortably from February to November. May, June and September are the most pleasant for long days and fewer crowds.

Is there a restaurant on site?

We don't have our own restaurant —we'd rather you discover the village—, but we share our trusted tables and, if you need it, we lend a hand with the booking.

Can you walk down to the marina?

We don't recommend it. It's a long descent and the way back is uphill. Best: taxi, Bolt or bus, which leaves the village frequently and costs just over a euro.

Do you accept pets?

As a general rule, we do not accept pets. If you wish to travel with yours, always ask us before booking: never arrive with a pet or assume it is accepted without our express confirmation. Service animals are always welcome.

Is the accommodation accessible?

The common areas have no lift and the village centre is made up of narrow, steep streets. If you have reduced mobility or any specific need, write to us before booking and we'll see how we can fit you in.
